SMART-TECHNIQUE AFTER CARE: We do not use dyes which will rub off, we use colour pigments which are environmentally friendly, are low in VOC and are not like the ‘normal’ colours you may be used too. All work needs time to ‘cure’ in order to withstand normal day to day usage. The following are some tips and guidance:

LEATHER – After re-colouring leather, whether this is after a repair or simply to restore the original colour, the item can be used after approximately 1 hour. This is because, as a natural product (don’t forget, there was once a Cow wrapped in it !) the pigments will adhere better as the skin will be opened up during preparation. Do not, however, apply and cleaning agents or leather treatments for at least 48 hours after completion as the dyes used will still be curing. There should be no need to use aggressive cleaning products, and it is important that any leather treatment or cleaners has a neutral Ph rating, as this will help to ensure the longevity of the re-finishing treatment.

VINYL – As a man-made product, after re-colouring vinyl, say a seat cover, this can be used after 1 hour, but care should be taken so as not to apply too much friction as the pigments will still be curing for at least 24 to 36 hours. Again, do not use any Vinyl cleaning treatments for at least 7 days, as due to this being a man made material and the different finish to leather, the curing time is longer . As the pigments used are the same as with Leather, any cleaning products should have a neutral Ph to maintain the finished colour.

HARD PLASTICS – This is also man-made, and will have the longest curing time until the finish is fully hardened. After re-colouring, whether this is after repair or simply to restore the original colour, if the item is a dashboard / door card / armrest etc, you should be careful not to knock / scratch or rub the finish as full curing will take considerably longer than that of Leather and Vinyl, as much as 10 to 14 days, depending on the amount of colour required to refinish. You should not try and rub out what may appear as marks or spots as these will fade and disappear naturally as the colour cures and hardens. As with the original product finish, this treatment is a re-colouring of the original, and is just as susceptible to chipping, wear and tear and scratching as the original finish. As with the materials above, when cleaning you should always use a neutral Ph product, but should not do so for at least 4 weeks, or longer if possible as the finish may be affected.
All work is guaranteed, with Repairs, Re-colouring & Restoration of Leather, Vinyl and Hard / Soft Plastic for 12 months. Velour repairs cannot be guaranteed.
